Part of the Nashville Skyline

On Thursday June 29, I moved into my new apartment in The Sobro on Demonbreun. The views from my windows and balcony are excellent. Adjusting to the smaller space is interesting, but having so much in terms of entertainment and dining within walking distance makes it all worth it. That night I went over to Martin’s Bar-B-Que Joint to see how it compared to the real West Tennessee bar-b-que I grew up eating at Scott’s in Lexington. I opted for the whole-hog sandwich. The meat was a little drier than Scott’s but did have a similar great flavor. Their Jack Creek sauce was a little tangier and slightly less spicy than Scott’s.  It was good stuff, but I’ll have to check out the other options on the menu. The ribs I saw there looked great.

On Friday, the moving company showed up with all of my stuff from Mississippi. Once they were done unloading, I went across the street to The Southern Steak & Oyster for a late lunch. Great oysters and and excellent bourbon selection are going to have me eating there frequently. Later that evening, I got to take advantage of one of the main reasons I chose to relocate to Nashville. I was able to meet one of my old college friends for a few brews at the Flying Saucer before heading over to watch a Nashville Predators Future Stars Exhibition. I’m definitely going to make it to a few hockey games this fall. First chance is September 19 for the preseason! After that it was back to unpacking the living room and bedroom before a midnight taco run to Bakersfield Tacos. That place will be handy for a late night bite.

For breakfast on Saturday I walked over to Kitchen Notes for biscuits and gravy. It was okay, but I’ve had better that costed a lot less. The gravy really could have used a little more salt in it. After breakfast, it was back to unpacking. Pizza from The Stillery ended up being late lunch and late dinner. That personal sized pizza was good for two meals. Their housemade Italian sausage is excellent.

Sunday will be spent finishing the last couple of boxes. The cable guy already got my internet and TV service going, so things are starting to feel more like home now. I’ll be testing out the community grills on the amenities floor later today so there won’t be anymore restaurants to mention in this post.
